Grab that coffee can of old change. Pick the coin, type the year, and find out in two seconds if you're sitting on silver and what it's worth today.
Add up the face value of your silver coins by type. "Junk silver" is what collectors call common pre-1965 coins with no collector premium.
| Dimes, quarters, halves | 1964 and older | 90% silver |
| Kennedy halves | 1965–1970 | 40% silver |
| Jefferson "war" nickels | 1942–1945 with a big P, D or S above the building | 35% silver |
| Morgan & Peace dollars | 1878–1935 | 90% silver |
| Eisenhower dollars | 1971–1976, "S" mint mark collector coins only | 40% silver |
| Pennies | Never silver. The 1943 "silver" penny is zinc-coated steel. | |
Melt value only. Rare dates, mint errors and high-grade coins can be worth far more to collectors. Silver proof sets from the US Mint also contain silver dimes, quarters and halves with an "S" mint mark.
